Deadline for Stormwater Education & Certification

By: Scott Nania, StormCon Coordinator Comments

Water protection experts will gather in Anaheim August 21-25 to explore the newest pollution prevention technologies and discuss which strategies are most effective in minimizing surface water pollution. With NPDES compliance in mind, StormCon 2011 brings together public officials, builders and contractors, inspectors, civil engineers, designers, regulators, enforcement officials, planners, consultants, researchers, educators, EPA staff, property executives, and other water quality professionals under one roof to focus on this critically important topic. Browse our agenda and conference directory to view all sessions.

Many attendees will raise their status and future earnings by training and then testing for a highly coveted professional certification. With some testing applications to due by July 22,  registrations are pouring in. The courses and certifications include:

Certified Professional in Storm Water Quality (CPSWQ)
Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC)
Certified Erosion, Sediment, and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI)

Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC)
Certified Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Specialist (CMS4S)
Training for Qualified SWPPP Developers (QSDs)

The new California General Construction Permit requires everyone needing the Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD) certification to attend an approved QSD training course before September 2. StormCon will host the final QSD-qualifying training course in the state before the deadline takes effect. If you're a SWPPP developer, or work with one, sign up today so you're certified by September 2.

For the first time, Preparing for the Rising Tide: Coastal Protection Symposium will be co-located with StormCon. Procedures for evaluating sea level change, the unforeseen consequences of coastal flooding, impact assessment, response and adaption strategies, new mapping tools and techniques for visualizing sea level rise, handling extreme storm surges, and low-cost retrofitting to facilitate flood protection will be among the topics covered. More information is here.

Participants include key personnel from communities throughout North America, as well as the US Army Corps of Engineers, Texas A&M, Boeing, Waste Management, Cal State Long Beach, UC Davis, URS Corp., Brown & Caldwell, CDM, Kennedy/Jenks, and many others.

Discounted Early Bird registrations are available until Monday, August 1. Join us! View the program and register today at www.StormCon.com
