This workshop will present a variety of resources for restoring urban and
suburban watersheds. In particular, the Center for Watershed Protection’s Urban
Stormwater Retrofit Practices manual will be highlighted. The manual outlines a
method for seeking the most effective stormwater retrofit practices within a
watershed, provides guidance on designing and installing a wide variety of
practices, and provides valuable information on costs and pollutant removal
performance.
The workshop will also address “regenerative stormwater design” concepts for
restoring ecosystem functions to dry detention basins, degraded outfalls,
stormwater conveyance channels, and impacted streams. The workshop will focus on
design approaches that not only restore ecosystem functions, but also create
attractive and functional community spaces, such as natural areas, trail
systems, courtyards and green spaces, and community parks.
The pre-conference workshop will include lectures as well as hands-on design
exercises.
