StormCon Keynote and Special Events

By: Scott Nania, StormCon Coordinator Comments
StormCon is respected for being the nation’s largest conference and exhibition of stormwater-related products, services, and technologies. Anyone who has ever been to StormCon also knows there is much more: the sumptuous banquets are unlike any other, and, combined with multiple networking opportunities, make the entire event a joyful experience.

The event kicks off with keynote speaker Gloria Reuben and the opening general session. Join us Tuesday, August 18, at 8:00 a.m. in the Platinum Ballroom for a truly memorable opening general session hosted by AbTech. Opening general session coffee service starts at 7:30 a.m. (hosted by Hydro International), so don't be late.

Gloria Reuben is an accomplished actor, singer, and social activist with a strong interest in, and devotion to, environmental issues. Ms. Reuben spends a great deal of time working on behalf of the causes she feels strongly compelled to support. Most recently, she participated in Speak Truth to Power, a human rights play in South Africa in August of 2008 for the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights (of which she is on the leadership council). Ms. Reuben has attended the presidential conventions with The Creative Coalition to advocate for her causes, and she is a vice chair for the board of trustees for Waterkeeper Alliance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s water protection and preservation organization. She speaks across the country on behalf of HIV/AIDS, the environment, and human rights.

Thanks to StormCon’s complementary luncheons and refreshment breaks on Tuesday and Wednesday, attendees will have more than information to digest.  Luncheons in the Platinum Ballroom will provide a sit-down meal and allow attendees to connect and reconnect with other professionals. There are no workshop sessions scheduled during the luncheon time slot, so attendees can fully focus on enjoying the food and networking opportunities. Luncheons are hosted by AbTech and Contech respectively.

Don't miss the Gala Reception! Bring a guest!  Wives, significant others, or your colleagues are welcome to join in the festivities. Live music, great food, passed hors d’oeuvres & chef services, carving stations, and much more. Stylish attire is encouraged. StormTrap will host the Opening Gala Reception Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Participate in interactive specialty panels Wednesday and Thursday morning. This year mark your schedules for BMP, LID & the Highway Environment on Wednesday at 10 a.m. and Talk Back to the EPA on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Arrive early to secure a seat at these extremely popular events.

While perusing the exhibit hall with more than 200 booths showcasing stormwater products and technologies, attendees can stop for refreshment breaks from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., providing a pick-me-up snack and a great opportunity to meet up with colleagues. Tuesday's break is hosted by Cultec.

On Wednesday August 19th between the hours of  3 p.m. to 6 p.m. visit Tritons booth # 19-20 (located near registration) for a special  green beer hospitality event.

StormCon’s Cyber Cafés, in the Marquis (hosted by Modular Wetlands and Bio Clean Environmental Services) and Grand Ballroom (hosted by Dandy ) are open all day during exhibit hours and provide an additional break opportunity in the busy show schedule to relax with a cup of coffee and catch up with e-mail and industry news.

After hours the Anaheim Marriot Resort is sizzling with attractions and entertainment.  It’s walking distance to the downtown Disney district, an outdoor promenade with restaurants, theatres, and shopping in a tropical setting. The Anaheim GardenWalk is an oasis of outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment in the heart of Orange County. Discover an abundance of retail stores, fine dining restaurants, an upscale bowling lounge, and state-of-the-art movie theaters.
