It’s that time of year again, and the call for papers has
just been issued for StormCon ’09, the North American Surface Water Quality
Conference and Exposition. Abstracts are due on Wednesday, December 3. The
conference will be back on the West Coast this year: from August 16 – 20, 2009
at the Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim, California. You can see all the information
about the conference and hotel at www.stormcon.com.
We have some familiar conference tracks this year as well as
some new ones. The six tracks are

This last one is a new focus area for the conference.
Although a few presentations in the past have dealt with source identification
and source control methods, the majority focus on end-of-pipe solutions for
treating polluted runoff.
There have been some rigorous studies dealing with pollutant
sources such as zinc from roofing materials, for example, as well as
highway-related and industrial pollutants, pesticides, and nutrients. This
conference track will explore the issue not only from a research standpoint, but
also from the municipal stormwater manager’s point of view: How can we
realistically assess the sources of common pollutants, and how much control is
it possible to have over those sources? How much of our resources and energy
should be devoted to source control efforts as opposed to treatment, and how can
we best integrate the two approaches?
You
can see detailed descriptions of all the tracks, as well as directions for
submitting an abstract online, at www.stormcon.com.
