New Man on Levee Safety Committee
(FOLSOM, Calif., Oct. 6, 2008)—Les Harder of HDR’s Folsom office has been
appointed as a private sector representative to the National Committee on Levee
Safety and will participate in the
group’s first meeting to be held near Washington, D.C. Oct. 7 to 10.
Harder, who served as the deputy director for Public Safety
for the California Department of Water Resources before joining HDR as senior
water resources technical advisor in January 2008, will be part of a
distinguished group of 16 national levee experts that represent federal, state
and local government entities, the private sector and a tribal representative.
HDR’s Environmental and Resource Management business group has made increasing
the visibility of its national levee program a top priority. Harder’s
appointment to this prestigious position marks a solid step forward towards
meeting this goal.
The
goals of the committee, which was established as a result of the National Levee
Safety Program Act of 2007, include developing recommendations for a national
levee safety program; developing a strategic plan to implement the national
levee safety program; and educating legislators on critical issues related to
levees and levee safety.
